The Oakland Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is a
dynamic alliance of the business sector, government,
education, organized labor and community leaders,
committed to improving the economic environment of our
city by:
- Enabling businesses to thrive through a
qualified workforce and tax incentives.
- Increasing employment and advancement
opportunities for job seekers and workers.
- Promoting youth development through
comprehensive year-round employment and training
services.
Appointed by the Mayor, the WIB provides oversight and
policy direction for federally funded employment and
training programs and services for OaklandÕs adults and
youth. Our vision is to create a fully integrated
workforce development system that focuses on results. By
developing and delivering quality services that meet the
needs of both employers and job seekers, the WIB is
making Oakland a great place for work.
The WIBÕs 45 members represent public agencies, private
corporations, organized labor, community groups, and
educational organizations. More than half come from the
private sector. The WIB serves job seekers and employers
through a network of six One-Stop Career Centers, which
represent the resources and expertise of more than 150
public and private partners.
For Job Seekers
The WIBÕs network of One-Stop Career Centers helps job
seekers prepare for work, find and keep employment,
achieve self-sufficiency, and advance their careers. The
One-Stop centersÕ services are free to job seekers and
include:
¥ Access to job listings
¥ Training in job search and job-readiness skills
¥ Assessment of skills, aptitudes, and interests
¥ Links to programs and organizations that can help
workers succeed

The WIB Business Services Program helps employers save
time and money on recruitment, meet hiring goals, and
reduce turnover rates. Federal funding enables us to
offer many services at no cost to you. Fee-based
services provide value far beyond their small cost:

job-ready employees
¥ Customized post-hire training to increase your staffÕs
basic, job-specific, and leadership skills
